A big THANK YOU to our 2012 partners & donors! :-)

Good memories from 2011...

May
The annual ALPHA kermesse was held at the School of Liberation of Soultanieh for 2000 children and 250 parents. The television NBN and other journalists (al Akhbar, Shououn Janoubiyah, El Liwaa) supported us in spreading the information on this event.

June
Launching of the Mapping Pilot Project in the center of Toulin.

July
Start-up of the counselling service for adults led by our ALPHA social worker Nazek Ismail, during which she visits the parents of the ALPHA children directly at their homes to help them overcome daily problems. Nazek also supervises the work of the other social workers in their assistance to children who encounter particular difficulties.

ALSO... a marathon in the forest of Tibnine for 200 children, 50 parents was organized in collaboration with the UNIFIL, the Lebanese Red Cross, members of the local municipalities, the scouts and the Lebanese Army.

September
Beginning of the training of the specialised ALPHA staff on new interactive, socio-educational techniques to work with children and involve their parents in the centre activities. Main partner in this step was the French NGO ASMAE.

October
A new centre was opened in Chakra which hosts weekly approximately
35 children, after the Kafra centre was closed due to insufficient participants.

December
A new ALPHA volunteer was recruited in connection to the ALPHA Christmas Market at the French Institute (French Embassy) in Beirut. Sahar was responsible for the stand, selling our hand-made products to raise funds for the association.

ALPHA Mission & Action Principles

ALPHA MISSION
  • To increase communities’ awareness on the Convention of the Right of the Child
  • To give children and parents access to concrete integration tools in regards to their social, cultural, physical and educational environment
  • To work towards the integration of all identified opposites such as: War/Peace, Child/Child, Child/Parent, Teacher/Student, Confession/Confession, Boys/Girls, Individual/Group,
    Generation/Generation, Village/Village
  • To allow all participants (children, parents, ALPHA Team and the community by and large) to fully benefit from the activities of the 5 centers

ACTION PRINCIPLES | “Artisans of social change among others”
  • Acting as artisans- Your problems are ours
    - Small but beautiful actions
       - A service nobody else can provide
       - Faces & names
       - Knowledge on how to create from all kinds of material

      • Acting for change
        - Confidence & Partnership
: ALPHA events in Tebnine could not take place without our 100 volunteers force rooted in the community.
        - Engagement & Continuity
: in 2012, ALPHA continues to help children in the South of Lebanon, within a region where conflict is still part of the daily life.
        - Solidarity, Conviviality & Responsibility: in 2006, ALPHA managed to put in place a coherent needs assessment in 17 villages of the South for the organization of food distribution, relying on the Lebanese “aouni” system.
        - Emergency & Sustainability: in case of security incidents, ALPHA collaborates with the Lebanese Red Cross and Civil Defense units, as well as the local social centers in order to protect children.
        - Plurality & Openness: ALPHA’s team is strong because it relies on a fruitful exchange between  men/ women, Christian/ Muslim, Palestinian/ Lebanese, integrating harmoniously into the community.
        - Creativity & Clear Thinking: ALPHA’s activities are adapted to the peculiar, local environment, with a constant attention for the safety of children.

      ALPHA's VISION

To represent high-quality fibers of the development sector, to weave a carpet of sustainable change
      (Albert Abi Azar)

ALPHA works towards a society in which all can live together peacefully; in which…
      social fairness creates sustainable links
every effort contributes to the removal of significant obstructions to change
compromises are legitimate, measured and pragmatic
      processes are child-centered
education is the means to increase responsibility towards one another and to make communities more aware in a sustainable way
